Arts-Based Workshop for girls with disabilities (12-19yrs old)

DAWN Canada has partnered with the University of Guelph for a project named “Engendering Disability-Inclusive Disability” where we will be hosting an arts-based workshop for diverse girls with disabilities (aged 12-19) on Saturday October 1st from 11:00AM to 2:00PM.

This project aims to uncover, create, and share knowledge about women and girls’ struggles for and progress toward disability-inclusive development, and ask how women and girls with disabilities contribute to discussions of rights and justice.

In this project, we also want to amplify the voices of girls and women with disabilities who have been invisible in disability and feminist research, such as Indigenous, Black, and racialized girls, D/deaf girls, girls with lived experience of institutionalization/foster care, newcomers, and girls with invisible or intermittent disabilities.

Arts-based activities such as drawing, collages, etc., will be used to engage participants in discussions about their experiences of inclusion, exclusion, and leadership.

Meals and refreshments, gift bags, and travel and disability accommodations will be provided.
